CVMA Watchdog Privacy Statement

CVMA respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to the CVMA Watchdog website. CVMA believes that if electronic commerce and online activities are to flourish, consumers must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, CVMA has implemented the following policy.

What Information Does CVMA Collect?

Most information CVMA collects is used only to help CVMA better serve its members. It is our general policy to collect and store only personal information that our members and visitors knowingly provide.

From All Users

CVMA does not collect any personal information from users browsing its website. Users to the public areas of CVMA’s Watchdog website browse anonymously. We collect and store the name of the domain and host from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com or ucdavis.edu); the Internet protocol (IP) address used to access our website; the browser software you use and your operating system; the date and time you access our site; and the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site. We use this information to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful. This information is not shared with any third party and does not allow us to individually identify any of our site visitors.

Information for CVMA website visitors who purchase products or services on our site

When you purchase products or services from the CVMA via the CVMA website, we collect your name, company name if applicable, contact information, your credit card information, as well as information about your current purchase. This information is only used to support your interaction with our site, to deliver your purchases if applicable and to contact you as necessary to fulfill your product or service request.

E-Mail Addresses

We collect the e-mail addresses of those who communicate with us by e-mail. The e-mail addresses are used only to fulfill your request or to contact you with information related to your request.

From CVMA Members, Conference Registrants, and Other Customers

To gain access to members-only resources and personalization features on the CVMA website, members and other users are asked to register and provide some limited information. This information is submitted voluntarily. CVMA may ask users to provide their name, member number (for members), organization name, business phone, and e-mail. Similar information may be submitted to CVMA through membership applications, conference or seminar registration, publication orders and subscriptions. Additionally, for some e-mails sent in HTML format by CVMA to its members through its listservers and electronic newsletters, CVMA will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that e-mail. For those e-mails, CVMA will monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other information collected through this tracking feature includes: e-mail address of a user, the date and time of the user’s “click,” a message number, name of the list from which the message was sent, tracking URL number and destination page. CVMA only uses this information to enhance its products and distribution of those products to its members. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.

How Does CVMA Use Information Collected?

CVMA uses information voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:

CVMA Member Services and Products

Generally, CVMA and its direct subsidiaries use data collected to improve its own Web content; to respond to visitors’ interests, needs and preferences; and to develop new products and services.

Disclosures to Third Parties.

CVMA also makes member contact information available through the CVMA Membership Directory to other members using its website and to those who register for its conferences. In addition, CVMA may incorporate information users provide into hard copies of the Membership Directory that it provides to members. On occasion, CVMA may also provide limited data to third parties that offer products and services. This limited information includes names and addresses, but does not include phone numbers, fax numbers or e-mail addresses. Users may request CVMA to refrain from disclosing the data it collects to third parties by contacting CVMA at staff@cvma.net or 916 649-0599 to express their preferences if they determine later that they do not wish to have the information shared.

Credit Card Account Information.

Credit card information will be used by the CVMA solely as authorized by the sender and will not be used in any other manner or shared with any third party except as needed to conduct the requested transaction. Only authorized CVMA personnel can access credit card information and solely for the purpose of processing the user’s request and performing adjustments or refunds at the user’s request.

We use secure socket layer (SSL) encryption to protect the transmission of information you submit to us when you use our secure online forms. All the information you provide us through these forms is stored securely offline. You will know that an online form is secure if “https://” appears at the beginning of the address line in your browser; if “http://” appears at the beginning, the page is not secure.

The CVMA has adequate procedures in place for protecting personal information, including but not limited to: use of firewalls; frequent updates to security and virus-protection software; and storing any personal information collected on a secure server.

E-Mail Addresses

CVMA does not sell or provide e-mail addresses to third parties. E-mail addresses may be sent to an e-newsletter distribution company for the sole purpose of distributing CVMA e-newsletters.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are files that contain information created by a Web server that can be stored on a user’s hard disk for use either during a particular session (“per-session” cookie) or for future use (“persistent” cookie). CVMA uses cookies only to facilitate automated activity, store and track passwords, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are not used to disseminate significant information about users over the Internet or to analyze any information that users have knowingly or unknowingly provided. Users may instruct their Internet browsers to opt out of accepting a “persistent” cookie and rather accept only a “per-session” cookie, but will need to login each time they visit the site to enjoy the full benefits. Registration enables the site to better determine members’ interest areas and provide the most relevant information.

Privacy Issues and Links to Other Sites

This website links to documents located on websites maintained by various other organizations. Once you select a link that takes you to another website, you are subject to the privacy policy of that website.

Changes to the CVMA Online Privacy Notice

The CVMA reserves the right to modify its policy regarding the use of cookies in the future as it deems necessary to provide enhanced features for its site users, and to otherwise modify this Online Privacy Notice at any time. Any such modification will result in this Notice being modified to reflect this change on or before the date the change takes effect find more here. Please refer to the online version of this Notice for the latest information regarding the CVMA’s online privacy policy.
